7/18/2024: Huckleberry Mountain rewards trail users with unique Teton views from the last remaining fire lookout in the Bridger Teton National Forest. Built in 1938 by the CCC hikers can still enter this historic structure while enjoying the northern aspect of Jackson Lake and Grand Teton National Park.
The most common access point for Huckleberry Mountain is from the Sheffield creek campground and trailhead just south of Flagg Ranch. Although surrounded by National Park this is National Forest Land and a common launch point for hunting outfitters. The climb out of Sheffield creek to the lookout is over three thousand vertical feet of hot dusty trail partly tree covered at the beginning giving way to alpine meadows above.
I had been warned of the difficulty finding the trail junction to the actual summit. The turn off from the Arizona Creek trail to the Huckleberry Lookout trail does not exist. Overgrown meadows have reclaimed this small stretch of trail and it is best to navigate with GPS if it is your first time. I included an image in the gallery of actual GPS tracks vs trail map at this junction. Comment if you have any questions.

Description: Moving time was 2:27:08 with 3,317 feet of climbing over 13 miles. My pace was 11:19/mile.
Beta: Sheffield Creek Campground/Trailhead start. Getting there will require access through Yellowstone or Grand Teton National Park or a rough dirt drive through the Grassy Lake Road. Follow the Sheffield Trail until the junction with Arizona Creek.
Gear: Dynafit Ultra 100 GTX Shoes. Dynafit Ultra 12 Vest.
